A Famous Guest in Hell

I am a famous and a frequent guest in hell.
They welcome me with open arms when I am unwell.
Each time my lover returns to me and then leaves,
I crawl back to devil, begging to let me in on my knees.

And he does. Again and again.
Demons become envious of my pain.
They put bandages on my heart and send me back to human world.
It’s late night and my wounds no longer hurt.

I wake up after being back from hell,
My life seems normal until my lover returns again.
This time is going to be different. I am naive.
I feel my heart cracking as I am watching my lover leave.

My ghost wonders streets all night,
My lover tricked me again. I feel empty inside.
Drunk on my sorrows, I crawl back to hell.
They knew I was coming. They know me too well.

I look devil in the eye and ask, “Will I ever learn?”
He smiles and shakes his head, “it is not your turn.”
With the last gasping breath, I scream out my lover’s name,
Demons scrap me off the floor. Hell goes silent for a day.

They put bandages on my heart and send me back to human world.
It’s late night and my wounds no longer hurt.
I hear my lover knocking on my door, tonight he is early.
I’ve been here before. I know what happens to me at the end of this story.
