Better Than Me

This original song + original music video explores the unique conditions of millenials and gen Z’s who have had to grow up, unaccompanied, through the internet and through social medias.

My name is Fabio, I am an architect and the musician. My studies in architecture helped me design the music videos with special 3D scans of myself, and to animate them with the audio of the music.  The music is influenced by jazz pianist Barry Harris, as well as the guitar style of Steve Vai and artists like Jacob Collier and Esperanza Spalding.

The style of the music, which meanders through many key changes, reflects a certain state of mind that those who have grown up in the age of social media have felt - a certain loneliness and abandonment mixed with a sense of absolute freedom and discovery. In the end, socia media is a new landscape of paradoxes, a land of opportunities, freedoms of expression and simultaneously of viciousness and savagery. I represent this landscape in the music video as a black void in which a digital version of myself is sleeping, and slowly morphs, to the movements of the music, into strange shapes. These visual effects end up creating clouds and root-like structures that transform my digital body into a new organism - a metaphor for the unfamiliarities of having to inhabit such a space. Ultimately, ‘Better Than Me’ is a reminder of the collective and self care that we must keep practicing.

All instruments are written, played, recorded and produced by myself.

Thank you for listening/watching/reading!
Take care,
Fabio
