The Tear

The stories of destruction that led her far away
Were carried in the tear she cried that one miserable day.

She told them through the salty drop
That glided down her cheek.
She asked the word if it would stop
And listen to the leak.

The leak of her emotions spilling out from in her head;
The evidence of bruises and the things people had said-

And yet it came as a surprise when she disappeared one day!
When they found the letter saying she was gone for good, away.

They said she hadn’t told them that anything was wrong,
They said that if she had they would have helped before too long.

But how could she explain to them all the things that had been done?
Why should she explain to them when it was easier to run?

And the truth is that she tried, she did, to warn them of her fate-
She tried to get them all to hear before it was too late.

She cried a tear that lonely night between midnight and four.
She cried a tear that lonely night, a tear that no one saw.
