There is nothing easy about island life, not here. At a time when Puerto Ricans needed a sense of community more than ever, a group of girls on quad-skates broke the rules, took to the streets, and started a movement.
This research project aims to explore global issues and universal themes through a localized perspective; more specifically, how the island’s history, environmental chaos, political status, and economic crisis shaped four girls into The Cherry Popperz. Since the skate-crew’s inception in 2020, Allana Gabriela, Patricia Estrada, Kilani, and Christine Coimbre, have been unapologetically paving the way for diversity and inclusivity within the Caribbean roller-skate scene.
