Farewell Winter

Winter whispers to me
Her chill caressing my cheek as I stand on the deserted steps
of this church
Her reassurence is interrupted by the laughter of tender memories
Floating down in the early dawn

The haunted pain in my soul groans
And I look down at your footprints next to my own
How long did we dance in the volcanic ash
Of this courtyard
Never seeing past the next season?
But here we are again

I track the snow on my boots past the hollow foyer
Down the aisle in solemn echo
Chaos has discarded the pews and remaing vestments
Pitting them throughout the chapel
You and I created our own side
Where there should have been one

The man at the altar is familiar
And yet a stranger
In his eyes
I see the gentle boy I sought to love
And somwhere in his face
I see the man I took as my husband

Destiny kisses our lips

And we join hands one more time
I never thought I would say goodbye to you
Not you
And not like this

The Universe makes no mistakes
For we were born to love each other
Only just between two stars in the vastness of space
Beacause now the scorched crossroads beckon us forward
And call us home

And tomorrow the ice will melt beneath our feet
We will feel whole again
Graceful little scars we'll wear on our hearts
And when we look back to our reflections
We will only smile

Farewell...
