Final farewell

Why can’t I love you and leave you?
It’s the honourable thing to do
Staying here with familiar fears
Instead of binding you to this reality here
We are lost at sea my love
And I can’t swim
And you can’t swim back against this current we’re in
There was a time when our love -deep and moving like the ocean
Engulfed my body, my heart , my soul
Feels like a lifetime ago...
But now I know
I am meant to tread without you.
As I navigate the memories and depths of our love, I look to my right and I cannot find you
I look to my left-what is left?
I look above for a sign but something takes ahold of me from below
Is it you ? Are you here ?
Where did you go?
Where do you always go when I need you?
I am pulled to the shore
One set of footprints in the sand
And now I understand
An island between us
And an ocean apart
I say goodbye to my love for the last time

My life in poetry
