Little Air

We come into this world with so much light and passion.
Our potential burning to become something great; something amazing and beautiful.
But sometimes that beautiful burning can get snuffed out – stifled.
Through absolutely no fault of our own.
You are so tender and fragile and beautiful and sweet and lovely and while you are all of these things and more, the hand you are dealt is not always equal.
And even though you know it’s not your fault the questions and whys and what ifs can crawl into those tiny dark spaces and nestle down and never come out of hibernation.
Because what were you supposed to have done so young?
What could you have done any differently?
You. Were. A child.
A beautiful little flame that just happened to end up in a room with little air.
And the only air in it was used to fuel the flames of your parents.
But you don’t understand why they still needed so much for themselves.
Why they needed to not only take each other’s air, but yours too.
Your air. Yours.
When you needed it so badly for yourself.
So, you learned to survive off of little air.
Only taking what you can get.
