Between dream and the waking world
Saw your silhouette in the shadows cast by the candle beside me
Your features indistinguishable but the outline of your form engraved into my mind
Sleepless nights spent gazing at your lying figure
Your image swaying in the dark
Dancing in the light
Like nails etching last word into the walls of a locked room
You are claw marks lining the inside of my skull
Gentle breath sailing alone above my head
A name repeated from cracked lips
ad nauseam
Teeth that sink into the flesh
won't let go
But when my eyes focused you were gone
A blurry Polaroid in my wallet
A shadow at the end of the hallway
Nothing but a burning memory
In the flickering flame of my lamp
