Dust

Dust is a choral work about  the Woolsey Fire that struck Los Angeles and my hometown, Thousand Oaks, back in 2017. In just a few days it burnt down 96,949 acres of land, 1,643 structures, killed three people, and caused more than 295,000 people to evacuate their homes. I was commissioned to write this piece for the Areté Vocal Ensemble in 2018 and displayed the destruction of the Fire as well as how close our community grew due to this tragic event through poetry and music. So this piece is about the sublimity of fire and destruction, and for the people who have suffered greatly due to this tragic event.
