Lungs

And I fell into the black hole of your problems,
of your promises,
of your empty space
And I collapsed through the stitches of your pain,
the cities of your grief,
the webs of your untold truth
And I tore down the brick walls of your guilt,
the metal bars of your out-crying dreams,
the stone fortress of your surviving rage,
the towering skyscraper of your distrust,
your lonely, hollow exhaustion
And I drowned in the fires of history like the scattered paper of your nightmares,
of the journal in your mind -
flickered the thousands of expressions on your face -
blazed my reflection in your explosive eyes
And I became the moon-lit tint on my pale, sand-paper, star-flecked skin
And I touched the wounded wolf's howl through the forest,
through the embers of heaven long since gone before it was known

And I wiped my eyes through the knotted weavings of your reasons to never feel again
And I sunk past your loss of purpose

And you burnt your memories into the hand you laid atop mine,
silent wishes with the unspoken bones of sacrifice,
with the brittle strain of my body,
with the eclipse of your beautiful hope

And I held within my arms the lives that surround our collision of souls
One by one, two by two

Take the lone trigger of my awkward gait,
the smoking barrel of my sharp, human reality,
my shot, uneven hair
Take my bouncing, bubbling smile and use it to fuel the dwindling moon of your heart
Take my eyesight,
my imperfect, calculating gaze and hide it beneath your downcast brows,
split it down the middle with your two minds

Take the laughter and the commonality of my home and share in it with me

Let me take your beaten, slashed path and guide you another ten ways,
for all the fingers on my hands
Let me take your cursed lineage,
your blinded betrayal
Let me reveal you to the light,
clasp me when you aren't sure and I'll pull you to the surface -
I'll pull you through -
with my worn, rain soaked strength,
my accidental, new apocalyptic beginning

Let us take and hold one another
Let us rest and heal and gather our calm,
our fierce morning damage,
our careful, passion drenched brokenness
Let us fall into each other,
like shards of nature,
like pieces of one whole.
