Duo by Aaron Dore

What is a name if not a life?
A collection of experiences, shared.

Little bits and pieces of each other
The good,
and the bad.

Nothing exists in isolation,
Completely untouched,
unchanged by the world.

Persisting together, a duo, a pair
Two steps.

One.
after, another.

Night following day and day following night.

Forever changed by every thing and every one,
All the simple acts that show our evolution
The smallest moments,
the big ones,

The ones we didn’t realize we had until it was too late.

Life continues because we refuse to stop
Placing one foot after another,

after another.

At every ledge, we build a railing
At every river, a bridge
Always connecting, ever-expanding.

At the end of every road, we pave a new path
Ready to take the next step.

We create shelters to continue our conversations despite the pouring rain
So we can stand outside for hours and not get drenched

We marvel at the leaves changing colors
And mourn when they finally begin to fall

We build benches with plaques dedicated to loved ones
Where strangers start new lives over cups of piping hot coffee.

We share their names, their stories
Because what better way to remember,
than to never forget?

We hold services, not for the fallen but for those left behind
Because a part of us is gone

but a part of them lives on too.

Forever changed
Forever transformed
What is a duo if not two?

What are we without you?
