I saw the future

I know you think this is your only escape

Glasses filled to the brim

is what seems to comfort you on your worst days

But lately we’ve been having plenty of those

And the bottles keep coming to console your fountain of self-pity

You dwell back on the past

When money wasn’t so fleeting

You regret some of the choices you made back then

And wished you did ‘this’ instead of ‘that’

But what about the choice that was made way long back

Just because you drank on joy, doesn’t mean you had control

That choice seems to have followed you into the future

Where it’s starting to affect me and the ones who love you

It doesn’t matter to me the looks that people give or the speeches they have prepared

We all sin a bit differently

But I just want to help

I’m terrified for you

I think about it constantly and wonder

If I could go back in time

I’d go back to when you had your first drink

I’d tell you to stop

Cause I know the habit sticks

I saw the future and you are at the brink of defeat

How many more people are you going to hurt?

You’ve already given me scars to keep.
