An old friend

The sea, she’s an old friend to me
I’ve known her for eternity,
Last year her storms ravaged me
Smooth and shiny, a pebble
From rock. Washed up

My shores alien territory
The sea’s anemone, but she knew
Seeds grow from death and grow
I did, roots painfully pushing through

The hardest year I ever knew,
The sea never left me, salt stinging
My pain receding, until I grew
Tall enough to be able to tell you
The story of the sea, and her love for me.
