The Message Man (15 Miles)

After over  3 months
4 breakdowns
One too many midnights and broken laws later
I have come out from the umbrella and into the rain
Under the stars and over myself
Caught, 15 miles between you and me.

Eyeing the message man behind his message stand dodging bullets left and right,
Because everyone shoots the message man.

Juggling predictable talk with people made of honey, throwing sugar on them to stick
Hoping the flatlines of this small man will breathe them life.

I need them to leave.
Take their blessings and walk to the edge of this flat earth
And leave this message man alone.

As the water falls, everyone with it slips away as runoff,
And it's just me and the message man,
With you,
15 miles away.

It never takes long to love someone who can't love themselves.

The bullets from my mouth slipping through him
When I couldn't feel
And he felt everything.

Tell him, message man, 15 miles from you and me,
I didn't mean a thing.

So I put my best foot forward
And the message man smirked:

“I can tell you're looking for answers
In the same way you're looking for him,
15 miles in the distance.”
He smiled.

“If I didn't have so much of this life wrong I would've gotten it right by now.
I talk too much tryna sound smart
When I only know 1 thing:

I know that everything is out there. That's why it's called everything.
I know he’s 15 miles away and that's a lifetime to walk. But you will walk,
Run your way 15 miles from the message stand.

And out from the umbrella into the rain you will have a moment of brilliance that will grow into perfect words of order and you will know what you want.”

The message man fades
15 miles shine
And I know what I want.
