The Ocean

When asked my greatest fear
I simply name the ocean
The waters murky
Beaches dirty
People in a hurry
Can never see what’s under
In the deep blue sea,
And that’s what really scares me
Shark attacks
Whirlpools
Even simply drowning
Where’s the land
I’m a fool
Now I’m falling down in
I’d rather climb a mountain
I’d really sky dive
I’d rather do anything
Then dive deep inside
The ocean is so beautiful but also terrifying
I appreciate its beauty but I also feel like dying
When I think of being swept away
Engulfed in the waters
Mistaken for an otter
I’m afraid of being slaughtered
By what I can’t see
By what I can’t sense
Way down deep
In the ocean
I am a poet and writer. I am currently working towards my English degree.
