Death of Sappho

Her heart is whole
as she looks out across the raging waters,
arms outstretched in knowing empathy.
She knows how it is to feel violent and unrelenting.
She has waded through similar tides.

But now she stands
Dressed in white,
A beacon of hope
To others who feel like they are drowning.
She holds them close and tells them
The tumult is temporary,
and the waves will not win.
