⠀Oil, African wax print fabric, Gold foil leaf on Canvas (36” x 24”)
My name is Ruhkia and I started my own art business at the age of 17. I am a Black- British artist exploring themes of self-discovery and roots. My stories are inspired by nature and how it intertwines with Afro- Caribbean heritage. By using African wax print fabric ( sneakily taken from my mother’s sewing material stock) and oil paints, I aim to create pieces that can be interpreted in many ways by many eyes.
Personally this piece represents the harmony that is brought about when humans simply respect the nature quietly residing beside us. Whilst painting, I realised that I wanted to portray the embracing of culture that can sometimes be forgotten. I hope you can draw your own meaning from this painting too!
