“Everything Goes Back to Cats”
I open my eyes
And the craving begins
I pour the sugar into my tea
grain
by
grain
The milk swells my thoughts
As I stir, it
overflows
And the song begins again
I take my cup to the windowsill
The street lamps awaken
Hemera pours her honey onto the horizon
The warmth beckons me
But a siren calls out
Tempting is her voice
A request, a plead, a cry to stay
The daylight, she says, is a lie
She insists the darkness welcomes me,
Should I succumb
I ponder and ponder and ponder and ponder
Until I make my choice
Nodding, I turn away from the deity
Accepting the siren’s fate
And I then turn
Ever so slightly
To meet her face-to-face
I abandon my tea
It’s gone cold anyway
And like the cockroaches in the hit movie Cats (2019) directed by Tom Hooper
I am eaten
By the night
