The aftermath of a snow storm

When the atmospheric river was announced to hit the San Francisco Bay Area on the last week of January 2021, all my husband and I could think of was how that would impact the higher altitudes with a bunch of fresh snow. We had been wanting to check out the Calaveras Big Trees State Park during winter weather, so this seemed like the perfect chance to have a super fun weekend getaway. We got ourselves a modest hotel in Arnold, CA for two nights, and we got on our way. Upon arrival, we were surprised to find out the precipitation had been more than the small town is used to so, on top of the usual lack of cellphone service in the area, we were now also subject to no internet nor cable TV in the hotel, plus power outages affecting half of the restaurants and services in town! Snow plows were overwhelmed, and small roads were still closed. We showed up at the Calaveras Big Trees State Park next morning still very optimistic, to find out they had only managed to clear the parking lots; the southern trail was absolutely closed and the northern one was at one's own risk. Nobody had yet made it walking, even some experienced snowshoers had failed to go far. As an amateur photographer, this sounded like the perfect opportunity to get some amazing shots away from the crowds, but it was simply impossible to walk without sinking up to your waist. So we headed back town to rent some snowshoes and here's the outcome of a magic weekend. There was probably about 6 feet of snow, and not a single voice could be heard. No internet nor cellphone only improved an amazing experience.
