William William Rodgers: Are We Still On?

William William Rodgers is a man with a guitar, singing of common woes with uncommon wit. On ‘Are We Still On?’ his baritone voice floats on waves of accordion, double bass and organ, sounding like the fruit of some alternate timeline where the English Midlands, not Greenwich Village, sowed the seeds of folk music as we know it.

Video shot on location in Cornwall by Jean Page, and starring Vlad, Jim Dear & William William Rodgers. With special thanks to the Union Hotel in Penzance.

Who is William William Rodgers? A frontier sheriff? A jumped-up gentry boy? No. Despite the suggestions of grandeur, he’s just a man with a guitar, singing of common woes with uncommon wit. He’s a pub crawl troubadour. The Bernard Shaw of Birmingham south. The fruit of some alternate timeline where the English Midlands, not Greenwich Village, sowed the seeds of folk music as we know it.
