The Tower
By Kortlan Ylde
I drempt emerging up the tower
running full speed the stairs of power
a Gothic realm in a string of bad dreams
a collection of nightmares echoing screams
my darkest corners have been a ghost town
growing together until it completely surrounds
one little light flickering strong
distracting myself with a favorite song
I walk in the darkness tormented
In denial that these walls are cemented
it breaks off my nails and takes from me blood
I try to get out but my bullets a dud
so I take it again and again without choice
trying to hold on and remember my voice
buried somewhere under the screams and the cries
beneath my memories of the faces that lied
it has all become one and I am the same
the darkness inside me ignites the flame
the light must go out for my eyes to adjust
where hope and innocence fall into dust
a foolish thing to knowingly send
an unarmed man into a lion's den
and expect him to come out stronger than before
cured of his fears and healed at the core
but that is our sentence to gain in this fight
and so to the pursuit of happiness, I blow out my light.
