CATS SCIENCE by Gionatan Scali ( article about society, culture, philosophy, existanstilism)

It’s called «The Schrödinger Cat Experiment»Sounds like a hard word. It is.But I will try to be as mild as possible.
I will apply this in the creative field to explain why tools like Instagram won’t work in the arts, and
why we urge to change, to push arts and institutions to leave this sticky environments —leave it to
the people that actually want to play or entertain themselves with shallow contents, to keep it busy.
You won’t seed or keep beautiful flowers in a discord field full of darnels, won’t you?
Today I want to try to apply quantum physics on social media.
Quite an ambitious thing right?
Let’s start from this thought that has been banging my head a few days after reading and watch a
few scientific subjects, specifically starting from this statement:
«Under observations things can’t work the same».
And It’s a constant thing in scientific experiments. Observer affects the systems.
And I’m not saying this myself, but it’s Science.
It has been said by a German Scientist in the 30's called Schrödinger. I think he won the noble prize
for his contributions in the physics. As subject of his experiment, he choose a cat.
That’s why it is called «The cat experiment».
But hold on a moment, I will wait to tell you what the experiment is about, or probably I won’t tell
you. I don’t think I have the skills. But you can go and easily find it on the web-
Quantum theory says that until a particle is measured and observed, it actually exists in all the states
it could possibly being, simultaneously. This is referred when a particle has been in a super position.

When the particle starts being measured the super position collapses, and the particle chooses one
state of being, over all of the others.
So the general idea is when a photon is been fired up towards a wall passing through slits, it has
been observed that it starts acting differently. This has been found in quantum physics in the double
slit experiment.

Particles or Photons have been analysed in labs. They noticed several types of behaviours when
they are under observation.
A photon basically will go straight when you are watching it.
It will go back to acting randomly once no one is around.
When a photon is not observed it will go in every directions.
Freely. Light-hearted.
It could be in 2 different places at the same time.
How can we translate all of this into the social media world?
Let’s start from saying that, «an observer can kill the observed». And let’s add the fact that many
people everyday watch stories on Instagram as well as see people acting in front of them. Observers
affect people choices, influencing the content of the creator’s mind. The content because of this
won’t act freely. It’s freeze in one position. So all its possible actions are minimised. Observers

think that seeing spontaneous routinely actions would keep them friendly and understanding. But
this is wrong. I don’t think this is very spontaneous, nor genuine. It’s more likely to be prepared by
the observed to catch the attention of the observers.
Humanity reached a level of narcissism like never before in History. Humans are at the top of this
narcissistic Era, we are the peak of our fake interactions with other people, we can consider
ourselves far away from being spontaneous. We don’t love anymore because of this. We ain’t any
particular feeling, being blank and bored. No wonder Physics and nature say that we are wrong, we
are taking the wrong path in history.
From the moment we are observed, everything that we do becomes fiction or pure acting. And this
is not acting because of the job of acting. This is acting in the real life. This is dangerous. After a
while we can easily become manipulative and we won’t recognise ourselves.
Even if we try our best to simulate reality in our daily routine we won’t quite succeed, bee are just
putting ourselves away from our inner-pure state.
Recognition or not recognition? Seen or not to be seen?
These are crucial questions we should respond.
If you are a recognised artist you are more likely to be labelled, you’re more likely to be putted in a
box like a product.
And because of this you will be under observation. And providing contents on a daily basis will
distract you, probably heading to the point of no creativity, far away from the reasons that brought
you to be an artist. This happens only for one reason: “Attention, Please see me! Now!” This won’t
create any benefits or any good profound art in the long run but will take you into a state of constant
anxiety as you have to find materials to deliver to your daily observers.
And if you use a particular dress you should stick with that dress. And believe me you’ll reach the
point that you’ll hate the dress.
However your producer or your manager would tell to keep it anyway. It means attention, money,
and more hits in order to be recognised.

A recognised artist in these crazy social digital-times is a man in jail. He is totally forced to do
things, things that probably would put him in a sort of act of repetition. Being repetitive to infiltrate
in people’s habits, like parasites in people’s life.
Going straight like a particle or a photon as observed and not able to move differently.
Let’s talk now about an artist not being recognised yet.
An artist that hasn’t been under any observations. Probably it won’t exist. Hence, he can act freely
with his art and soul. He doesn’t have anything to show. Nothing to dress. He is a pure photon who
is being free in his nature, able to move in any directions, being everywhere at the same time.
He doesn’t have to demonstrate anything, because there are no observers to judge his movements.
He can be everywhere according to the quantum physics.
No observers can’t kill his actions. No observers force him to be the way observers ask you to be.
This is an act of purity. This is an act more likely to be governed by the universal nature.
Don’t you reckon this is the ultimate goal of a true artist or creative person in his lifetime?
In the world of social media, we find loads of egotistic narcotic-sticky contents, making us do the
same repetitive clicks. This reinforces that we are doing a great thing in sharing our silly contents.
The fact that everyone aims at being popular or famous, it is getting into our heads and now there’s
an army of un-talented people with massive followers that make them believe they are great. Then
we left the good ones behind. And we forget about the big weight of society of philosophers,
thinkers, artists. The ones that we should really listen and focus on.
We have forgotten the real reason why art exists.
Even now more than ever institutions are getting polluted and influenced by those idiots just
because they use this sort of pretentious honesty and self-charming.
This concerns also big authorities, academies, universities. They are losing their reliability in terms
of choosing who has to be out there or not. And most of the times is a matter of money, not a matter
of talent.
This lack of responsibility is increasing and becoming a proper nightmare in the world of arts.

Corporate believe only in numbers, talk only about datas and who makes the trend. Like silly idiots
they incorporate those silly bastards in their business plans causing mass disruptions and spreading
bad education and ignorance. Their “noble” aim of engaging our attention ends up numbing our
senses and rendering us indifferent. The business of giving is powdered with glamour and dressed
up as entertainment. James Harkin used this cool term called « Compassion Fatigue» in his book
The Big Ideas.
They will try every sort of unfair strategy to get attention, forgetting the ethics and the values,
chasing their clientele.
So the final question is, do you think that the Instagram society is evaluating artists, humanity and
good thinking? or it’s just a messy place full of empty contents stuck in bullshit? Visually is a
massive pile of shit and good art is very-very squashed underneath.
Before I finish this, I want to come back to what I love and is good to me.
I want to mention an ambient record by Brian McBride.
The record is called « when the details lost its freedom» made in 2005.
It always made me interested in trying to understand this beautiful mysterious statement.
Then reading about the double slit experiment and quantum physics made me add something into
this amazing weird caption.
The details lost his freedom when they are observed.
So my invitation is:
To be in love with the intermezzo, with the breaks, with the dead times in between activities. Stop
rush, make your clicks meaningful. Don’t try to reach the goals all the time. Enjoy every little
step… Don’t try to create observers around you. Try to make good art first. We need new principles
and new ethics.
Be careful in not feeling stuck in the prison of your mind. If so then don’t try to stop it- accept your
desires, don’t refuse them. Give to your mind the freedom to roaming around. Don’t be scared of
the shadows. Don’t be afraid of the fact that shadows can distract you. This means that you are able

to see the impossible. It means that someone is trying to give you signs or try to talk to you. Respect
your shadows.
If you are feeling special. But not recognized yet. Like me. Be happy about it!
According to the quantum physics You can run free. Everywhere. If you are like me this is probably
for you.
Social media is not a grave environment for a serious influential authority.
Observation might affects you in a bad way.
Would you modify your behaviours just for achieving popularity or would you waiting for them to
find you and grow while living without any observers?
Bear in mind that being observed changes inevitable the phenomenon.
Whatever this is.
