Sonny’s Biography
He has a standard jazz and contemporary jazz sound with upbeat tempos and smooth mello saxophone as well as flute. for over 20 years, Sonny, a versatile and multi-talented professional, and within the past few years, released two CDs, Mello Madness and Raising Standards. Sonny has played at various local, regional, national, and international venues and has performed and shared stage with nationally renowned and local talent, late great Calvin Simmons, conductor of the Oakland symphony and the likes of Lou Raws, De Wayne Wiggins of Tony Toni Tone, Charlie Wilson of the Gap Band, Leny Williams, and Rodney Franklin just to name a few; and has open for Gerald Albright, Kirk Waluam, Braxton Brothers, Ronnie Laws, Cameo, Earth Wind & fire, Con Funk Shun, Parliament, Boney James , Dave Coz, the Crusaders, Jeffery Osborne, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole ect; Sonny's range covers Contemporary Gospel, Contemporary Jazz, Smooth Jazz and Jazz Standards Music Instructor/Entertainer. Member of the Oakland Unified School Art Education Task Force sense 1982 Started a mentor program Keeping Music for the school district. Help started music programs in several churches in the bay area schools. Having KQED Educational TV as a sponsor for the Prominence Project. Youth Music director for East Bay Church of Religious Science. Teach Music to all ages. (Music Theory, Piano, woodwinds, Brass, Drums,. Reading Music, Classical, Blues, Jazz, Gospel. The youth performs events for the community. Saxophonist/Flutist for ST Paul AME Church Berkeley Ca. East bay church of religion science in Oakland Ca.
