I FEEL IT IN MY BONES

Marcus is a musician and spoken word artist and his sound can be described as a warm fusion of Jazz, Reggae, Hip-Hop and Contemporary Music. He is developing the Jazz Paradigm, an immersive VR experience that weaves together graphic novel aesthetics and video game interactive narrative with themes of freedom, oppression and creativity through storytelling, music and spoken word. Marcus already performs in his own virtual Jazz Club in AltspaceVR, a club where people from around the world can visit, meet and listen to jazz and spoken word performances. Hailing from Leicester, of Afro-Caribbean Descent, classically trained artist Marcus Joseph started playing Clarinet when he was just 7 Years Old. After numerous academic achievements in Music, he began playing in Leicestershire Arts County Bands and Orchestras. He gained airplay on BBC 1Xtra as a Hip-Hop DJ and MC and was subsequently inspired to pick up the Saxophone and study Jazz at universities In Leeds, London and New Orleans. His instrumental repertoire includes Alto-Sax, Aerophone and Piano. Marcus was commissioned by 2Funky Arts in October 2021 as part of Black History month and Still I Rise midlands tour to create a performance theme that expressed his own experiences of the turbulent times shaped by Black Lives Matter and the disproportionate impact of Covid-19. His debut album Beyond the Dome was released last year on the Jazz Refreshed label. He has since played at landmark events such as Love Supreme and We Out Here. Marcus has supported the likes of Oscar Jerome, Blue Lab Beats as well as The Blackbyrds and has also worked with such luminaries as Dennis Rollins, Tony Kofi, Arun Ghosh, Dave O'Higgins, Abram Wilson, Gary Crosby and Eska. His work has been supported by Tom Robinson (6Music), Gilles Peterson (6 Music), Tony Minvielle (Jazz FM), Dj Lanni (Worldwide FM).
