Here is an incredible music video from an up and coming experimental hip-hop collective based in the UK. Formed in 2017, the collective boast a roster of 6 members, all from different countries, 4 of which are bilingual. Their diverse backgrounds and wide range of influences fuse together in a melting pot that produces provocative and unique music, beyond the scope of normalcy dominating the current hip hop scene.
The subject matter of the song formulates around the concept of the drawbacks and responsibility of being a wordsmith, one who can utilise their voice as a powerful tool for communication. Furthermore, the song addresses the complex duality of being a creative, pushing through less than ideal circumstances and an outsider/immigrant dealing with this responsibility, despite never asking for it and finding meaning in it.
The instrumental is smooth, jazzy, funky and the bass line works overtime to keep your head consistently bopping throughout. It is a slow burner of a track, slowly unravelling its layers to you as it progresses, melting you into a state of comfort and reflection.
