Exquisite Pain Visual Album

My debut album, “Exquisite Pain” is a visual album that shows my journey of coping with declining mental health as a result of organizing 100 days of peaceful protest against police brutality and racial inequity in Athens, Georgia.  Intentionally releasing this project during Black History Month, this album speaks to the invisible struggle of Black women's mental health and what coming back from that struggle can look like. Every song and visual on the album represents Convict Julie's coping process and the process of losing herself to become reborn again as a new person. From surrendering herself to love for the world and her community to accepting her newfound role as a community hero, "Exquisite Pain" displays the heartbreak and the death of the ego that comes with sacrificing oneself for the greater good. I partnered with a small team from Country Music Television (CMT) to film this entire project in one 10-hour day with a $0 production budget.
