A child smiles
and runs through water from a sprinkler 
and runs across the playground 
and she understands nothing 
but everything makes sense

A girl smiles
and skips through a school hall
and holds a notebook in her hand
and is content with the world she has created 
after discovering it’s much better than the one she was born into

And she smiles
as she walks through the big doors
but soon realizes she is the only one 
that lives in her world
and the walls of her world begin to crumble

A young woman sits in a chair
and feeds the women at the desk lies
the same lies everybody tells, that she’s fine
and she doesn’t smile
and she doesn’t remember her world.
