Leading Lady of my love

The first girl
I loved.

My mom told me to be more like her. Confident. Cool.
Or as cool as you can be in middle school.

We hadn't even turned 13.
We were trying out for the volleyball team.

The first time we talked.
First day of school.

I tried to be more like her. Confident. Cool.
I made a move, and a friend.
I wished that day would never end.

She eventually moved away, but we're best friends to this day.

It took me 4 full years to realize.
I remember when I did. How hard I cried.

Sometimes I still wonder if we'll ever date.
We hardly know our own feelings, how could we know our fate?

The first girl
I dated.

My friend told me to get to know her.
I told my diary:

1/20/20
There's this girl I'm going out with, we've been talking all year.
We're going to a concert (a first date where we can't even hear).

2/12/20
It all worked out amazingly.
We grabbed each other's hands
and ran

Shoving through the crowd
We yelled how happy we both were
and we yelled it real loud.

We left our purses behind the trash
Would they be there at the end of the night?
We didn't care all that much actually
Too busy living in the lights.

3/13/20
She moved back to L.A.
Everyone I love moves away.

The first girl
I kissed.

A long night led us to the parking lot
Of a Costco Wholesale.
We looked at each other and said something, I'm sure
As far as words, my memory fails.

Her lips moved to say something, I don't know what . . .
I'm too busy remembering
The moment our lips touched

At first, we pulled away and laughed
Then more kisses that came next
The very first kiss didn't last
But the rest I couldn't ever forget.

She said my lips were super soft
I remember hers, lingering lip gloss

A year later now and we don't talk
Does she know that kiss still means a lot?
