Borderlands, Here and There

How would you describe the sea?
Sea is tender and soft.
Sea is the sky, reflecting the rising hope of sunrise and the pink sunset cloud.
Sea is the frontline of human’s bloody massacre.
Sea is tolerant, embracing human’s desires.
Sea is everything among nothing.

(Sea in low tide)
I am
Standing on the isolated military tower.
Sniffing unpleasant industrial sewage and salty flavour from the sea.
A smell of marijuana from you pervade in the air.
Witnessing the faded frontline of England.
Listening to roar wind echoing,
Echoing,
Echoing among the abandoned tower,
Bringing me back to the wild wind of my hometown, Formosa.

Formosa, a beautiful island.
As a descendant of mountains,
And child of the sea.
I look into the endless sea,
Mountains become my spines.
The clear blue sea beckoned,
The great green mountain enchanted.

Formosa, a windy island.
The wind said, ”Son, I will dry the crops to make a harvest land."
The wind said, “Son, I will bury the sound of military aircraft to illustrate an illusion of happiness.”
The wind said, "Son, I will try my best to create a beautiful Taiwan.”

I am
A son of the wind.
Reading poetry in Winds of September.
Singing alone among the sound of military aircraft,
Looking into the distance from the coastline,
Staring at the other place that hasn’t led me.

(Sea in-between low tide and high tide)
I am
Brought and attached on the field by drift
Thinking of
How earth records traces with her
Every single cell.

How would you describe drift?
Drift is timeless.
Drift is a falling part of forts on the other side of the world.
Drift is an assemblage of time and places.
How deeply time is embedded within the place.
Drift is displacement.

I am
Brought and attached to the field by drift
Thinking of
How humans mark on the ground with their
Greedy desire.

(In high Tide)
Following the moisture of the ocean,
You are gradually covered by fog,
Like the history of you, ambiguous and unperceived.
Froth of history evaporates into the disappearing landscape.
The path to you will be drowned into the sea after 5.
There is no other way I could reach,
Reach to you.
Let you freeze this moment in time.
All over again.
All over
Again.
The sunset’s pale light,
Casts soft shallows.
The moisture of the ocean at dusk blurs the boundary
Between the sea and the sky.

In my dream,
I am
Waving my belonging without fear,
I am
Yelling wildly,
Inaaw Na makacuwa kita.
Inaaw Na makacuwa kita.
Which means
Where I come from.

In my dream,
Without any silence,
Without ant avoiding,
I am who I am,
Like a Sisin, a bird with soul.
Flying among the tolerant sky at will,
Looking out over
The maternal land,
My Formosa, beautiful island.
