David’s Lullaby

I sang for him
A song I wrote
To soothe his soul
To keep his hope afloat

I play for him
As he drifts into sleep
I sing simple hymn
To keep his mind and body at peace

The sound of the harp
Make his demons obey
A sleeping child
I sing as he finds his way
Through the chaos that surrounds us
And that he grows stronger day by day

As he uses my chest as his bed
And the sounds of dawn begin
I run my hand through the hair on his head
I won’t always be here for his journey ahead
It’s just as I sang and said
Reality can’t bring back the dead
It’s best to live in a dream instead
