starlit bay
the moon keeps a hold
of the sea
the waves have a way
with you and me
when the water washes into
where we were that night
and the baby birds learn
to take their first real flight
remember that old fisherman
who took us down to the pier
we cried tears of laughter
as we drank his home-made beer
he lent us his little boat
to take out to the sea
and you caught a shooting star
and said it was for me
i’ll never forget the way
the waves cradled us in that boat
like we were little babies
under your blue-green coat
and i think back to those times
and treasure them like gold
as now just like that fisherman
we have grown old
yet i hold you in my arms
as you slip away
and promise to meet you someday soon
in that starlit bay
