Appreciations
I am grateful for medicine, live gigs,
That there is always some sort of reassurance,
And help nearer than I think
For how music sings with a power louder than my ramblings,
For how it shares our hidden tone and lovelies it.
I am grateful for trees sighing In the wind, for girls with mullets
For the liberation in wisdom and that we can have so much, if we only ask for it
I am grateful that what should change is now an exciting possibility,
Not a burden to crush me.
I am grateful for the dots in strawberries, for good movies
For my grans wee ways and grandpas stories
I am grateful to be older now and not tired today,
And don't have to get up at 6 am everyday
For how art reflects our beauty and keeps alive what'd be lost, forever gone to us
I’m grateful for when someone can't speak cause they're laughing so much
I am grateful for my dad's hugs, to feel real love and that very little is closed to us
I’m grateful that our ancestors agreed on much
So now even as strangers we can talk with undertones of understanding and love
I am grateful for how words bring out the unknown hurts and loves stirring in us
I’m thankful that someone somewhere understands us,
I am grateful for English accents and Glaswegian crowds
For cathedrals and that free thought is allowed
I am thankful that there is room for reason in the trappings of irrational feeling
And for poetry, to help with empty loneliness, and that I don't have to frown at inconvenience.
I’m grateful for water, for the fact that change is always possible
I am grateful for intimate talk with someone new,
I am grateful that we are more than our impulsive notions
For tweed caps and waistcoats
I am thankful that I can now sing in front of him without a tantrum,
Confront truth without panic, for humour, for orgasms.
I am grateful for murmurations, birds gliding in perfect patterns
For the unseen edges of nature, for dance, his hearty laugh and the city’s softly lit architecture.
I’m thankful that we can be like those we admire,
that we can grow past current comprehension and for taking socks off in bed
I’m thankful that eternity is felt in a deep breath,
And that boredom is a lying sense for there's so much left to try, invent and learn.
I’m grateful for when the toilet door randomly opens on a Scotrail train
I’m thankful that the blue night sky
Always comes to give me a break and to silhouette the city.
I’m grateful for old other worldly memories, all food, thyme tea and charities,
That I can be witness to the greatness in history.
I’m grateful that there's often an explanation more redeemable than my imagination,
For intense concentration, for thick paper, strange faces , warmth and safety
I’m thankful to know that a personal challenge isn’t proof of deficiency,
I’m thankful know that I know now, I must call myself free.
