The Swan Circus, is a hand painted stop motion animation which tells the story of swans being captured by a circus and being forced to perform. The video presents the tragedies of slavery and animal capture, it tells the more brutal history of the treatment of animals in the circus, but in this fictional piece, toward an animal considered sacred to the British monarchy, the swan.

This is something I've been working on for two years. I became obsessed by The Circus, and then later, Swans, and created this animation incorporating these obsessions. The film was released as a music video for musical group 'Febueder', song title: 'When You Speak To Mingus'.

Stylistically I wanted to do something I called 'Rock and Roll' - untidy, 'holes' in the production, so the viewer can see how the animation was made. I took photos on my phone of each frame as I finished them, the lighting for these photos were therefore representative of the lighting I had available in the room. I purposefully wanted this to change throughout the video, to give the animation another layer, a flickering effect.
