There is no fish in the sea

Like Poseidon swimming with sirens,
manipulation of a goddess is a poison to society,
if only she had noticed
good guys swimming in the deep-end
out of their depth
drowning in toxic traits
before she had left a trail of bodies and broken hearts in resentment,
washed up on the shore,
with fellow mermaids praising her grace
serenading sailors with whispers of their heart’s truest desires
like angels aubade, a battle cry for the unholy crusade
her love felt like a war,
these fish were not enough anymore
so she went into the world to find more.
