“Alright, I’m gonna go”
I said, slightly above a whisper but firm enough to be felt.
“Is... this it, then?”
My shoulders sunk, as I turned.
“yeah, I think so”. I replied, impressively softer than before. “It is.”
Slightly slower than light travels, we connected;
chest to chest,
bicep to ribcage,
forearm to spine, hand clutching shoulder blade,
flushed cheek to flooded cheek,
severed heart to torn soul.
We detached.
Our eyes met, only to again run
and seek shelter,
as our tears continued to rain
down.
We had broken down each other’s walls
and built a castle, by the river, with the refugee bricks.
"Look at this mess we made."
We wiped away each other’s tears,
embraced,
locked eyes
and smiled, for a few more seasons.
"ok… ok… you’re going to miss your flight.”
said while gently applying pressure to my still bleeding cheekbone.
We locked eyes,
breathed each other in and finally…exhaled.
I let go of a hand that I hadn't noticed grabbing
but instantly missed, when I turned and walked away.
“Tell the wind to bring you back to me”
Fearing my feet would turn to stone, and my love would flood the Earth,
I didn’t look back,
as I left my home,
to follow the wind.
