I can feel you in my breath

This is a series of illustrative bookart I created to pair with a recent piece of prose I wrote during my time in isolation.

“Sinking beneath the surface of the night
The sky and the ocean meld and split apart again,
Indecisive lovers,
Soft skin stretches across jutting bones,
You pull your fingers through your hair and stretch upward,
The long arching shape of your back,
Casts shadows onto the bedroom wall,
I can feel you in my breath,
Right down to my fingertips,
In the morning light,
By the tortoise shell flecks in your irises,
I am almost convinced you can be happy,
I seek your approval as the sun beams down on my face,
A ridged spine stiffens and curls away from me,
Fear and loathing in London,
I fold around my fragile heart,
Protecting it from the doubt that hides behind your eyes,
You don’t want me to get to know you,
Because you don’t want to get to know you,
I’ll talk to the walls and pretend not to care,
I’ll whisper in your ear to soothe your aching mind,
I’ll trace enchantments across your temples to make you stay,
Your fickle love,
Sandcastles,

To be eroded with the change of the tide,

See you soon,

See you,

See. “
