My Family and Me

We’re going on a trip,
My family and me,
We’re going on a trip,
To the sea.

I hold my baby brother’s hand,
As he sleeps on the way,
My father is talking of his favourite band,
My mind is far away.

I’m thinking about the waves,
How they caress the sand like my mummy’s gentle touch.
I’m going to look for a cave,
Then build a village out of sand with shops and cafes and such.

I will run away from the water as it comes,
But chase as it recedes,
My mum will chase me with a hat to hide me from the sun,
We will come back every year my family decrees.

In the car my brother sleeps,
As the sun sets on our way back home,
I’ll think about my secret to keep,
About my little cove.

I’ll think about the kite I flew,
All on my very own!
The sea was a dark shade of blue,
That reminds me of my walls at home.

My favourite trip,
With my family and me,
Was our very first trip,
To the sea.
