Ferry crossing

Red halos reflected in the windows
Make the grey sky open up in greeting.
Instead of violent waves
slicing through the mist
A pinkish hue softens them.
Spring evenings that share are
Pasted over this midnight sailing.

We each hold halogen bulbs,
Distorting our imperfections,
Reflecting what others want us to be.
Lights on a ferry window
Hiding what we don't want to see.
